Prehistoric settlements along River Basin of Ketil River, Baling, Kedah

Abstract:

The state of Kedah is well known for its own historical chronology that begun during the prehistoric age located in Guar Kepah, Penang until the early kingdom of Old Kedah. This article focuses on the survey of potential archaeological site around Baling Hill that located at Kedah hinterland area based on a previous research made by Collings on 1936. The survey had been done by a group of researchers from Institute of the Malay World and Civilisation (ATMA), UKM on March until June 2015. During the survey, the team visited some caves and a lot of artefacts was found during the survey especially at Gua Tok Sik. The artefact findings were analysed in term of  physical form. It is hope that the artefact findings do associate with another prehistoric site around the region to proof the trade activity between the coastline and hinterland peoples. Then, it’s to strengthen the theory about who is responsible to establish the Kingdom of Old Kedah.
