Abstract:

Gas exchange techniques were used to estimate photosynthetic parameters of five species with different leaf ages from A/Ci curve during three measurements over 2010 growing season in a temperate meadow in eastern Inner Mongolia. There was an extensive variability in photosynthetic parameters, the maximum carboxylation rate of Rubisco (Vcmax), the maximum rate of electron transport (Jmax) and the ratio of Jmax and Vcmax (Jmax/Vcmax) in different species and leaf ages. Vcmax, Jmax and Jmax/Vcmax varied from 23.4 to 99.6 µmol m-2 s-1, from 48.0 to 313.8 µmol m-2 s-1, and from 2.24 to 2.92, respectively, in five species in the measurements. When comparing among different species, Phragmites australis exhibited the highest photosynthetic parameters while Plantago asiatica was the lowest one in the average of three measurements. On the other hand, the parameters with young leaves were higher than that with old ones. Average Jmax/Vcmax was 2.52 of the five species.
