Abstract:

The objective of this study was to evaluate the available water capacity (AW) spatial variability in plots of two soil classes, a sandy Oxisol and a clayey Ultisol, aiming the rational irrigation management. Soil samples with undeformed structure were collected at the depth of 0-0.25 m, by systematic sampling and by use of regular grid with dimensions of 2 x 2 m, totaling 36 points, which were divided into experimental areas located at the Iguatemi Experimental Farm (sandy Oxisol) and at the Irrigation Technical Center (clayey Ultisol), of  Maringá State University,  Maringá, Paraná, Brazil. The exploratory analysis of each dataset was performed by use of descriptive statistics. The realization of the Box-Cox family transformation was required to accord the geostatistical model normality assumption, which made possible the preparation of contour (kriging), standard error and conditional probabilities maps. The distribution of AW showed a spatial distribution with moderate dependency ratio, and range of three and seven meters for Oxisol and Ultisol, respectively.
