Abstract:

Our purpose in this study was to determine changes in anti-oxidative enzymes activity, protein and ascorbic acid content from Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. leaves subjected to air pollution, using two sites; control (unpolluted) and polluted (around one of the oil fields in south west of Iran). The results exhibited that the activity of peroxidase, ascorbate peroxidase and catalase in leaf samples in response to pollution stress increased, as well as the content of protein and ascorbic acid. The increase was significant (p<0.05) for ascorbic acid. These changes all suggest the activation of protective mechanisms in the plants under air pollution stress, and also the plants make physiological and biochemical adjustments to compensate environmental stress.
