Abstract:

Uniform design was adopted to optimize the combination of betaine, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), methionine chromium (Met-Cr) and cysteamine (CS) for improving growth performance of rats. The regression function for average daily body gain (ADG) was: Y = 5.31511794 + 5.455582552X3 + 0.026494118685X4 – 0.00000007785039453X1 * X1 – 6.839892518X3 * X3 – 0.00015110802779X4 * X4 + 0.000022749876748X1 * X2 + 0.0000026391823088X1 * X4 – 0.0004926339297X2 * X4 – 0.009843794221X3 * X4, where y= ADG; X1= dosage of betaine; X2 = dosage of CLA; X3 = dosage of Met-Cr and X4 = dosage of CS. The regression function predicted that when the dosage of betaine, CLA, Met-Cr and CS was 408.1856 mg/kg, 0 mg/g, 0.325 mg/g and 80.2788 mg/kg, respectively, the ADG would be the highest as 7.3355 g/d. The regression function for feed conversion rate (FCR) was: Y = 4.65288580 – 0.00007884588330X1 – 1.3684893256X3 – 0.027621622236X4 + 0.0009983807005X2 * X2 + 0.00012142766692X4 * X4 + 0.00008954019195X1 * X3 + 0.0000014566810120X1 * X4 + 0.016628950658X2 * X3 + 0.03719303306X3 * X4, where y = FCR; X1= dosage of betaine; X2 = dosage of CLA; X3 = dosage of Met-Cr; and X4 = dosage of CS. The regression function predicted that when the dosage of betaine, CLA, Met-Cr and CS was 44.4714 mg/kg, 2.4944 mg/g, 0 mg/g and 154.7228 mg/kg, respectively, the FCR would be highest as 3.2988. The parameters of the regression function for ADG and FCR were acceptable and the predicted value was near the observed value for ADG and FCR in negative control treatment, respectively. Betaine and CS had significantly synergistic action on ADG and FCR. CLA and CS had antagonistic action on ADG. Significantly synergistic action of Met-Cr and CS on FCR was found. Furthermore, low synergistic action of Met-Cr and betaine as well as Met-Cr and CLA on FCR was found. These findings will help future combination of them in obesity prevention and treatment as well as in animal production.
