Abstract:

Topping stage of Nicotiana tabacum L. is a key time for development of agricultural measures to promote the quality of leaves. Soil pot experiments were carried out to compare nicotine synthetase activity, nicotine content, and nutrient accumulation at different parts of N. tabacum during topping stage under different P and K nutrition. The results showed that high P treatment increased significantly activity of nicotine-synthesis related enzymes, including putrescine N-methyltransferase (PMT), arginine decarboxylase (ADC), and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), and nicotine content as well as accumulation of N, P and K. Different from P, high K treatment decreased significantly content of nicotine, activity of PMT, ADC and ODC, and increased K accumulation, but not N and P accumulation. The results indicated that P and K nutrition control the formation of nicotine via regulating the activity of nicotine related synthetases and the nutrient accumulation during the topping stage.
