Abstract:

In order to study the effect of different irrigation, N and superabsorbent levels on yield and yield components of sesame, a field experiment was conducted in Khosf Region, Birjand, Iran, in 2009 as a split-split plot randomized complete block design. The treatments included irrigation interval at three levels of 6, 12 and 18 days as main plot, N fertilizer level at three levels of 0, 100 and 200 kg/ha as sub-plot and superabsorbent at two levels of 0 and 200 kg/ha as sub-sub-plot. The results of analysis of variance showed that the effect of irrigation interval and N level was significant on chlorophyll index, capsule number/plant, grain number/capsule and grain and biological yield, but they had no significant effect on 1000-grain weight and harvest index. Means comparison indicated that with the increase in irrigation interval from 6 to 18 days, chlorophyll index, capsule number/ plant, grain number/capsule, grain yield and biological yield were significantly decreased by 7.1, 34.8, 20.7, 44.5 and 44.1%, respectively. Also, with the increase in N level from 0 to 200 kg/ha, they were significantly increased by 8.3, 15.6, 23.1, 25.6 and 14.5%, respectively. According to the results, the treatment of irrigation interval of 6 days with the application of 200 kg N/ha is recommended for realizing the highest sesame grain yield in Birjand Region.
