Views and attitudes of mulberry cultivators according to the Regulation (EC) No 1257/99: The case of Evros prefecture

Abstract:Nowadays, the future of sericulture is prosperous, since the European Union adopted sound economic reforms to support the mulberry cultivators. This study aims at investigating the individual and societal characteristics of mulberry cultivation investors and farmers, in compliance to the 1257/ 99, article 31 of EU legislation regarding the afforestation of agricultural lands and its specific application at the prefecture of Evros (North Greece). The adopted methodology of the study was implemented via the structure and distribution of a questionnaire. The data was gathered and manipulated with the use of the SPSS software. According to the study outcomes, the mulberry cultivation meets the social approval and landowners’ acceptability, since it is considered a prosperous and economically safe investment.
