Abstract:

This study was concerned with the treatment of condensates from industrial ammonium nitrate production. The treated solution was a condensate with conductivity in the range of 0.7–0.8 mS cm-1 and pH 10-11. The aim of the work was to achieve conductivity below 0.1 mS cm-1 by electrodialysis. Experiments were carried out in a batch mode by a laboratory module EDR-Z/10-0.8. The results showed that the raw condensate could not be treated efficiently due to NH4+/NH3 equilibrium. It was necessary to adjust the pH to 7 or less and in case the removal of NH4+ and NO- were over 98%. An industrial technology was designed on the basis of the laboratory tests. The technology treated 15 m3 h-1 of the condensate and produced a diluted stream with a concentration of 50 mg dm-3 and a concentrated stream of 150 g dm-3 concentration.
