Abstract:

Two approved genotypes of chickpea Punjab-91(female) and CM-88 (male) were planted for hybridization. Ninety flowers were pollinated daily and completed 300 flowers of each time interval. Out of these, thirty flowers were pollinated after 1 hour, thirty were pollinated after 6 hours and thirty were pollinated after 24 hours of emasculation. The data collected on the number of pods under treatments of different time intervals between emasculation and pollination of chickpea flowers showed that significantly highest number of pods was formed when pollination was carried out 24 hours after the emasculation. The overall success rate was highest (15.33%) in flowers, which were pollinated after 24 hours of emasculation. High pod setting within ten days was mainly because of mean temperature 24°C and humidity 46% with day length of 12 hours.
