Abstract:

Salvia miltiorrhiza is one of the widely used traditional Chinese medicine herbs in China. Its efficacy depends on the active ingredient of root andrhizoma. In order to research the accumulation of state of activity component in Salvia miltiorrhiza, the HPLC method was used to detect the tanshinone IIA and cryptotanshinone contents in different growth periods in the roots and rhizoma of Salvia miltiorrhiza. Depending on the result, it will be used to determine the optimum harvesting time. S. miltiorrhiza planted on the same base but at different growth periods was used for the test. High-performance liquid chromatography was used to measure and analyze the content of the ketones under the following conditions: mobile phase, methanol–water (75:25), flow velocity, 1.0 ml/min; detection wavelength, 270 nm; and column temperature, 30°C. The tanshinone IIA and cryptotanshinone contents of S. miltiorrhiza at different growth periods showed significant differences, especially in November when the contents of both components reached their respective peaks. The volatility of the ketones of S. miltiorrhiza at different growth periods was high. This characteristic provided the reference for determining the optimum harvesting time for S. miltiorrhiza.
