Abstract:

Marketing of fishery products concerns many sections ranging from producers to consumers. It also involves producers’ organizations (the fisheries cooperatives), transporters, agents and brokers, merchants working as wholesaler and retailers, exporters and importers, local and central officers as well as industrialists processing fisheries. Since fishery products can be easily decomposed, they should be brought to the market as early as possible. Therefore, marketing of fishery requires an efficient working marketing system. Although Turkey has favourable conditions for fisheries sector, some major problems still exist in this sector. One of these problems is the dispersed marketing conditions, which creates problems in fisheries, aquaculture, processing and quality control areas of this sector and also storage and transportation stages (lack of proper cooling chain) of the marketing. For these reasons in this study, it was aimed to discuss the structure and problems of fishery products marketing in Turkey as well as evaluating the effects of the regulations on fishery product marketing.
