Abstract:

In this research, a new technology for land preparation - smash ridging tillage was studied. The study was carried out from 2011 to 2012 at the Modern Agriculture Exhibition Station of Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, located at Huang’chuan (31°52’N, 114°53’E) county, southeast of Henan province, China. There were three tillage methods: plow + rotary tillage (CK); plow+ smash ridging tillage (PS) and smash ridging + rotary tillage (SR). The results showed that smash ridging tillage (SR) could increase wheat population (millions per hectare) (10.38 versus 9.53 for CK and 10.23 for PS), SPAD values (50.7 versus 41.8 for CK and for 42.9 PS), wheat kernels per spike (24.1 versus 16.7 for CK and 22.9 for PS), and wheat grain yields (7161.5 kg·ha-1 versus 5803.6 kg·ha-1 for CK and 5930.0 kg·ha-1 for PS). It also decreased the soil density, stem height and spike length.
