Abstract:

In order to reveal the efficiency of marker-assisted selection (MAS) in drought related traits of wheat, QTLs associated root traits in previous studies were used and a F2 population including 160 plants derived from a cross between an drought resistant variety Qingmai6 and a drought sensitive variety Yannong24 was used in this study. The efficiency of marker-assisted selection (MAS) of root traits including maximum root length (MRL), root fresh weight (RFW), shoot fresh weight (SFW), seedling height (SH) and root diameter (RD), was analyzed. It was found that type A and type B showed significant difference with screening by primers xgwn297, xgwm135, wmc367, xgwm495, xwmc553 and xgwm259. Therefore, these primers can be used as available markers to select root traits of common wheat in this population. Primer xgwm297 was the best marker in selecting root dry weight. We suggest using the combination of primers xwmc553, xgwm259 and wmc113 for selecting maximum root length.
