Abstract:

An experiment was conducted to find out the optimum planting time for maximum yield with better quality of processing variety. There were three planting time viz. T1= 30 October, T2 = 15 November and T3 = 30 November and two potato varieties viz. V1 = Asterix and V2 = Felsina were used during 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. The tuber potato planted on 15 November gave the highest yield (25.0 t/ha). Among variety, the highest yield (22.9 t/ha) was found in Felsina. The two varieties produced better quality of French fries and chips. For French fries, Asterix planted on 15 and 30 November showed better results while Felsina gave better performance in 30 November planting. Asterix planted on 15 and 30 November also exhibited better results for chips, whereas Felsina showed better performance in 15 November planting. Highest total sugar and lowest reducing sugar were found in Felsina on 15 November planting.
