Microbiological analysis of the water of Lumëbardhi river (Kosovo) during winter season

Abstract:

The objective of this study is to assess the quality of water, of the river Lumëbardhi during winter season, 2012 year, through the microbiological analysis. Samples for microbiological analyses are collected in three localities along the river. Analysed parameters were: total coliform bacteria, SS (Salmonella and Shigella), heterotrophic bacteria, Streptococcus faecalis and Fungi. We determine higher number of microorganism in waters of Lumëbardhi river during the winter season. The locality 3 was higher polluted with microorganism, compared with other localities (1 and 2). The number of total coliform bacteria (14,000 cfu/100 ml) was higher at third locality, compared with first locality (5,000 cfu/100 ml) and second locality (10,000 cfu/100 ml). According to the bacteriological analysis the river is polluted microbiologicaly. The results from the river section, examined during the investigation, demonstrate that the river water belongs to the fourth class of quality.
