Safety climate assessment on priority, commitment and the efficiency of safety management

Abstract:

The term of safety climate refers to workers’ shared perceptions of their work environment pertaining to safety, where it can influence safety performance of the organizations. This study was carried out to assess the safety climate in Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) based on perceptions in handling safety aspect by the management and workers and contributes knowledge and guidelines to improve safety climate in MOA. The questionnaires and simple analysis were used as a method to achieve the objectives. The results from this study indicate that the priority, commitment and safety efficiency was at low. Therefore, this study recommended having safety policy guidelines, hazard determination, risk assessment and control evaluation, establishing the Occupational Safety and Health Committee, strengthening safety communication, increase safety training and safety behaviors change norms, as suggestions steps to improve the safety climate in the MOA.
