Abstract:

The aim of this study was to analyze the sustainability of fisheries exploitation through taking into account the multidisciplinary dimension of the Guilan fisheries. A multidisciplinary comparative evaluation of the “health” or sustainability status of 21 major Caspian Sea fisheries from Guilan province was performed using 44 scored attributes in ecological, economic, social, technological and ethical fields. For data analysis and assessment of sustainability level, Morris Inequality Index was used. Findings revealed that more than 76% of the studied beach sine fisheries cooperatives are in a moderate situation (mid-sustainable) which in turn indicates that also 85% of townships are in a moderate situation, so that relatively, Astara and Rasht Township enjoyed from the most sustainability and un-sustainability status, respectively. The results from systematic analyzing of fisheries sustainability indicate that among the studied dimensions of this province, technical sustainability index enjoys from more favorable and sustainable situation than the other indexes, although the total situation of this index is also indicating a moderate situation.
