The role of women in rural tourism, the sample of Gaziler Village (Bardiz), Erzurum, Turkey

Abstract:

This study was carried out to determine the potential and development possibility of ecotourism in Bardız village based on rural development considering the behaviours of local women. In this respect, questions of “What kind of ecotourism activities should be carried out in Bardız?”, “What should  the role of local women be in tourism activities?” and “What touristic activities can be applied local community and how can they affect tourism in the region?” were aimed to answer. Gaziler village has a population of 431 of whom 209 are women. Totally 54 women were applied a questionnaire about the subject. It may be stated as the consequence of the study that development of activities important for the development of rural tourism in the area, which has high tourism potential with the existence of values such as mountain, plateau and cultural heritages can contribute to the solution of socioeconomic problems.
