Abstract:

In the present study, twenty six bacteria isolates, from rhizospheric soil samples of maize growing area in semi-arid region (Harran Plain) of Turkey, were characterized by morphological and biochemical tests. Gram-negative bacteria were Pseudomonas sp. and Gram-positive were Bacillus species. Twenty six isolates were screened for antagonistic activity against F. moniliforme in Petri dishes. Two isolates (MK1 and P5) were found effective based on the diameter of the inhibition zone. Among the twenty six isolates, twenty isolates were positive for calcium phosphate solubilizing in vitro. On the basis of above criteria, MK1, P5 and P8 isolates were tested in pot experiments. MK1 isolate consistently caused a promotion of plant growth.
