Abstract:

In order to study the effect of different amounts of selenium on yield and yield components of two canola cultivars an experiment was conducted. The experimental design was a randomized complete blocks arranged in factorial with three replications. The first factor included canola cultivars (SLM046 and Okapi) and second factor consisted of three amounts of selenium (0, 3 and 6 kg.ha-1). Plant height, number of plants per square metre, number of branches, 1000 seed weight, silique length, silique number, seed number per silique and seed yield were evaluated in this study. The results showed that there was significant difference between canola cultivars in respect of 1000 seed weight, silique number per plant and seed number per silique. In addition, interaction between cultivar and selenium application indicated that response of  canola cultivar to  amount of selenium is variable when interactions were assessed on number of siliques per plant, number of seeds per silique and seed number per plant. These results suggest that canola cultivars were affected by different amounts of selenium. In general, selenium application increased silique number and seed number per silique. Finally, according to obtained results SLM046 was selected as superior cultivar.
