Abstract:

In experiment I, ‘Fuyu’ sweet persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) fruits applied with 1-MCP (1,000 nL/L) followed by cold storage (2 month) had higher firmness at 60, 75 and 90 days following application of cold storage than fruits with 1-month cold storage followed by postload 1-MCP with additional cold storage (1 month). Repeated application of 1-MCP, pre- and postload 1-MCP, did not increase fruit firmness compared to those of single application of preload 1-MCP. 1-MCP-treated fruits had greater fruit diameter than those of control at 60, 75 and 90 days following application of cold storage, but flesh weight, soluble solids contents, and electrical conductivity was not affected by 1-MCP treatments at 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days following application of cold storage. In experiment II, the 3-month cold storage fruits applied with 1-MCP followed with or without modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) had higher firmness at 14, 28 and 42 days following application than those of the 3-month cold storage fruits applied with MAP or control fruits, but fruit diameter, soluble solids contents and electrical conductivity were not significantly affected by the treatments at 7, 21 and 28 days after treatment.
