Abstract:

Mixture sowing systems are applied for different aims in forage cultivation. This study was conducted to determine effects of companion crops on different seeding methods (broadcast and alternative seeding) and different sowing rate (0, 90 and 180 kg ha-1) in the establishment and production years of alfalfa. The experimental design was completely randomized blocks with 4 replications in 2004, 2005 and 2006 years. The percentage of weed decreased with different seeding methods and sowing rates of barley in the establishment year. According to companion crop sowing rate (0, 90 and 180 kg ha-1), hay yields were 2684, 4000 and 4854 kg ha-1 in the establishment year, respectively. The percentages of weeds decreased and straw and seed yields also increased with companion crops in the following years.
