Organic agriculture in African countries: A review

Abstract:

This paper presents an analysis of organic agriculture in selected African countries with a view of identifying the factors that influence the adoption of the innovation and the major source of information utilized that enhanced the adoption of the innovation. Some of the factors that influence adoption are age, level of education, farm size, extension contact, source of information etc. while some of the major sources of information include individual contact, demonstration, extension agent, mass media etc. The paper recommends that the extension managers and policy makers should focus on the identified factors and the major source of information used by the farmers with a view of evolving an effective and sustainable extension system.
