Abstract:The aim of this study was to determine the water use efficiency at parcel and scheme levels of surface irrigation methods for Sarkikaraagac irrigation scheme, located in the Mediterranean Region, Turkey. In order to determine water use efficiency, indicators such as field water application efficiency at parcel level and at main canal and secondary canal levels; water conveyance losses, efficiency, adequacy, dependability, delivery performance ratio and faulty delivery ratios were investigated. It was established that mean field water application efficiency was 39.8% and mean water delivery performance was 3.53% for the main canal and 8.12% for the secondary canals. Mean adequacy, efficiency, dependability, delivery performance ratios and faulty delivery ratio for the main canal were found as 2.38, 0.51, 31%, 1.72 and 0.72, respectively while the same values for secondary canals Y4 and Y5 were 2.09-2.25, 0.85-0.71, 40%-49%, 1.51-1.68 and 0.51-0.68, respectively. In the light of these obtained figures, it was concluded that irrigation efficiency in the study area was low and this mainly resulted from inefficient use of water at field level.
