Abstract:

The purpose of this paper was to identify and prove the efficacy of two homeopathic treatment methods that can be used in order to treat chronic endometritis in cows and to verify their local and general immunomodulatory effect. The cows taken into consideration for the research were diagnosed with chronic endometritis by rectal palpation taking into consideration the topography and size of the uterus as well as the thickness of the uterine wall. Two experimental and two control batches were set up as follows: Experimental Batch 1 was treated with Lachesis compositum N ad us. vet. (Biologische Heilmittel Heel GmbH, Baden-Baden, Germany) while Batch 2 was treated with Mucosa compositum ad us. vet. (Biologische Heilmittel Heel GmbH, Baden-Baden, Germany). Both control batches were given the classical antibiotic treatment using oxytetracyclin. For the correct interpretation of the results, blood samples and uterine secretions were collected from five cows belonging to every experimental batch before and after the treatments, in order to determine various metabolic and immunologic parameters. After performing the natural treatments, healing was obtained in both batches in 81.5 and 73.33% of the cases with lower percentages for the control batches (77 and 66.66%, respectively). The results obtained after studying the metabolic and immunologic parameters proved a strong stimulation of the immune system, reflected by the clinical evolution towards healing of the uterine infection. Thus, we recommend use of the two homeopathic products in order to treat the chronic endometritis in cows.
