Abstract:

nvestigation of  human, animal and agricultural activities as the main sources of pollution, was conducted through the microbiological and physicochemical analysis. The assessment of  the water quality of the river Erenik was done  during summer  season, 2008 year. Samples for microbiological analyses were collected in four  localities along the river. Analysed parameters were: total coliform bacteria, SS (Salmonella and Shigella), heterotrophic bacteria, Streptococcus faecalis and fungi.  Higher number of microorganisms in waters of Erenik  river was determined during the winter season. The locality 4 was higher polluted with microorganisms, compared with the other localities (1, 2 and 3). The number of total coliform bacteria (150,000 cfu/100 ml) was higher at the fourth  locality, compared with the first locality (40,000 cfu/100 ml) , the second locality (65,000 cfu/100 ml) and  third locality (75,000 cfu/100 ml). According to the bacteriological analysis, the river is polluted microbiologically. The results from the river section, examined during the investigation, demonstrate that the river water belongs to the fourth class of quality.
